Mixed-Bed Polishing
In water demineralisation plants, a polishing mixed bed can be used following first step of ion exchange resins or reverse osmosis membranes primary unit to get higher quality.
Generally, the mixed bed consists of strong acid cationic and strong basic anionic resins, they can be gel or macroporous type. They are normally regenerated in the same column they are operated. In some cases, external regeneration is done for easier and safer operations.
Mixed beds could also be used as working mixed beds when the inlet water is clean enough to allow a long cycle length, for a low demand or simple systems.
