Free Fatty Acid Esterification with Chemra

In case the feed stock has more than 4% FFAs, a pre-esterification step with MeOH can be implemented to convert the FFAs into valuable biodiesel. Up to 100% FFAs can be converted by using a solid acid catalyst like Chemra's TREVER®|LYST CAT/RN100.

 

In order to protect the catalyst from early fouling by cations, proteins and phospholipids a guard bed filter has to be installed using TREVER®|LITE RN100.

 

Water is formed during the esterification step, which has to be removed before the transesterification step. In both processes the feed stock might have to be pre-treated to meet specifications and to extend the resin life.
